Nizza Monferrato, as the name reveals, is situated in the heart of the Monferrato Region, in an area rich with historic hamlets and Castles, and famous for its truffles, cardoons and the hillsides covered with the finest Piemontese vineyards. This Region distinguishes itself in autumn when several festivities take place, such as the Truffle Fair in Moncalvo, the wine festival in Asti, also famous for its “Palio” race, and the Cardoon fair. Canelli, home of the Asti Spumante wines is near to Nizza Monferrato and this is also the heartland of the famous chocolate and hazelnut preparation called “Gianduia”.
Other nearby places of interest are Aqui Terme with its Roman Spas, Bra which is headquarters of the “Slow Food” organization, and Torino, elegant and refined Capital of Piemonte. Torino is about 100 kms away and its Egyptian Museum is one of the most important in the world. Nizza Monferrato offers all shops, facilities, a weekly open air food market and an antiques market held every third Sunday each month.
The apartment is luminous and comfortable, and is in an ideal position to reach the numerous local restaurants on foot without having to worry about drinking an extra glass of wine and driving. There is a private residential parking area nearby and the owners can provide access pass to those who want to use it at a reasonable cost.
Completely and recently renovated, the apartment develops on two floors. Access is from its private courtyard, up 4 steps to the main external entrance. Then from there, two flights of stairs lead to the apartment’s private entrance which is directly into a large open-space hall with wardrobe, and living and dining areas. A door in the living/dining room opens into a fully equipped kitchen with gas range, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, American and Italian coffee machines, toaster and other kitchen appliances. Through the kitchen is a hall with door to a complete bathroom with double washbasins and shower.
The living area has a fireplace, Sat TV with SKY channels, and the floor is in chestnut parquet. Two large glass doors open onto balconies overlooking the Piazza below where the City Hall is also located. This beautiful building dates back to the year 1200 and is entirely done in brick and the “Campanon” bell tower stands next to it.
An iron staircase leads from the living area to the third floor sleeping section of the apartment. At the top of the stairs is a landing with “Boiserie” and glass doors that open into the double bedroom, which in turn, has two doors opening onto the Piazza. This room has a beautiful wood beamed and cotto tiled ceiling. It is elegantly furnished with original antiques. From the landing, a hall leads to the twin bedded room which has cotto floors. Another door opens into the second spacious complete bathroom with double washbasin and bathtub.
The owner is a well-known local architect and she personally cared for the renovation and furnishings of the apartment, combining traditional Piemontese materials with modern amenities. The tinted walls add to the delight of the whole, with light blue in the living area, yellow in the kitchen, orange in the bedrooms, and green in the bathrooms.
The price includes heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. There is a telephone for guest use and maid service is available at 20 Euros per hour. Fireplace wood is payable on consumption. A baby cot can be provided on request.
