MOLINO DEL PONTE - This ancient Chianti mill dates back to the 16th century and has been lovingly restored by the current owners in a painstaking effort to maintain its structures as unaltered as possible. Completed in 2003, it now boasts the original water passageways, the water wheels, and the dyke used to draw water from the stream. At the bottom of the garden is a separate structure that was used as secondary mill for fodder. It has been transformed into apt Setaccio and is still positioned over the Pesa stream. These flour mills used to be one of the focal centres of farm life in the Chianti, with the farmers bringing in their cereals to grind and exchanging stories and anecdotes while they waited. Lucarelli with basic food shop is at 3 kms. Radda in Chianti with all facilities, shops and restaurants is at 6 kms (there is a short cut to reach Radda that reduces the distance to 4 kms and if guests ask the owners, they will show them where to go), Panzano in Chianti is at 7 kms, Castellina in Chianti is at 18 kms and Siena and Firenze are equidistant at 35 kms. The main structure is divided into three separate apartments and lies on the side of a gentle slope. The property covers a hectare and is entirely fenced in to provide maximum privacy. Access is directly from the secondary asphalt road that runs at the perimeter of the land and entrance is through a wrought iron gate. The property offers separate parking areas for each apartment and a panoramic oval swimming pool that measures 6 X 12 meters (1.6 meters deep). A gardener who comes by regularly to water the plants and care for the pool keeps the extensive grounds meticulously. There are ample furnished garden spaces for guests to use and there is a barbecue. At the rear of the mill, with access from the pool area, is a ping-pong table for shared use. The apartments are centrally heated and gas is payable on consumption during heating season together with firewood. There is a utilities room at ground floor with washing machine. Wood beamed ceilings, cotto floors and some of the original stonework preserve the Tuscan architectural style intact. All four apartments offer satellite TV, stereo with CD player. There is a baby cot and small domestic animals are allowed.
