Residential complex "VILLA POGGIOSECCO"
VILLA POGGIOSECCO - Two elegant and comfortable apartments located on the second, top floor, of a Renaissance Villa that was built incorporating a 12th Century watchtower overlooking the road that connected Florence with Siena. Part of the “Cinta Buondelmonte” series of fortifications and watchtowers that were interconnected for defensive purposes.
The tower was practically demolished in the early 20th century when a first restoration of the Villa took place. The history of this property is interesting and spans several periods and the lives of generations of Florentine and Sienese families. Designed by Architect Buontalenti, whose family also owned it for a period of time; he also added the beautiful chapel that today, unfortunately, is separated from the main Villa by a secondary road.
The Villa was recently subject to a total restoration with maniacal attention to detail by the current owners. It is set in the hills of the Chianti Classico heartland and dominates the countryside with vineyards and olive trees. The estate itself develops on one side of the secondary road mentioned earlier. The town of Mercatale Val di Pesa with all shops and facilities is at 1 km from the Villa.
The town of San Casciano is at 5 kms, also with all facilities, bus station and access to the Superstrada connecting Siena to Florence. Florence is at 18 kms, San Gimignano is at 36 kms, Florence airport is at 37 kms, Pisa airport is at 106 kms, and the coast of Versilia with its beautiful beaches is at 127 kms, while the Fiumicino Airport near Rome is at 312 kms. The Villa is in a central position that makes it ideal for those who want to visit the historic and artistic cities of Tuscany. There are horse for hire at 10kms, and the Ugolino Golf Course (18 holes) is at 15 kms.
The owners are all adults and very quiet and private people. They occupy the rest of the Villa and are available to assist guests with information, itineraries and advice. The gardens immediately surrounding the Villa proper, and the formal Italian garden is for their own reserved use.
The property is totally fenced in to maximize guest privacy and access is from a wrought iron gate with electronic key. The ample grounds offer a parking area and a beautifully positioned swimming pool (7 X 14 meters and 1.15 meter deep). The pool looks out over the Tuscan landscape and is surrounded by outside furnished areas for guest use.
The pool also has a covered area furnished with tables and outdoor living room, and a solarium terrace and shower are also located there. Down a few steps from the pool level is a wooden structure that hosts bathroom and dressing room. There is also a really interesting botanical walk that the owners will show their guests since it is full of interesting and unusual plants and shrubs.
Access to the apartments is from the side of the Villa, through a large door that opens into a hall with both pietraserena stairs leading up to the apartments, and an elevator.
The stairs and the elevator door both culminate in a landing with two opposing doors which are the private entrances to the two apartments. Both apartments have central heating that is charged at 15 Euros per day during heating season, Satellite TV with DVD, washing machines and dishwashers.
There is a weekly linen/final cleaning fee of Euros 80 for apartment Giotto and of Euros 100 for apartment Leonardo. The apartments can also be let in a single solution by a larger family group. Both apartments have original fireplaces which, unfortunately, are only decorative.
There is a baby cot and maid service can be reserved (Euros 15 per hour), as can cooking lessons and an in-house cook. The apartments are comfortable and furnished impeccably. Both have video phones connected to the outside gate.
